Can A Game Improve Your Art Skills: Part One
I have always really enjoyed drawing, I just wish I was better at it. It would definitely come in handy for all the storyboarding I do at work. Thus far I have got by using Photoshop and primitive scribbles to communicate creative ideas to clients and teammates. It would certainly be amazing if a Nintendo 3DS game really could help improve my art skills.
I admit to being rather sceptical as to whether a game such as Pokemon Art Academy can really improve my drawing ability, but at least so far it has been fun trying. My six year old son has also enjoyed working through the lessons, it will be interesting to see how he gets on when the difficulty increases.
So far we have worked through the first three lessons. All of which have been designed to get you familiar with the tools available. It has been easy to produce good results as you are basically tracing over outlines. It feels like cheating but it has been a good way to build confidence working with the stylus on the 3DS.
You can save all the art you create in a gallery which will hopefully be a great way to see improvement. I am looking forward to working through the next set of lessons which must be a good sign. I will post a new article to let you know how I get on.
